New KCA Member Resource: Practice Cost Calculator

The Kansas Chiropractic Association has launched a new online resource designed specifically for chiropractors who want a clearer understanding of the real cost of delivering care and operating a practice.

The new KCA Practice Cost Calculator allows members to estimate:

  • Monthly practice overhead
  • Cost per patient visit
  • Break-even visit volume
  • Provider compensation impact
  • X-ray cost per view
  • Associate doctor hiring costs and ramp-up timelines

The calculator was built to help doctors make more informed business decisions using real-world chiropractic practice variables. Whether you are evaluating fee schedules, planning for growth, considering adding an associate, or simply trying to better understand your practice finances, this tool provides a practical way to visualize those numbers.

The associate hiring section also includes estimates for:

  • Payroll taxes
  • Benefits and malpractice costs
  • Recruitment and onboarding expenses
  • Additional operational overhead
  • Revenue and productivity projections
  • Estimated cumulative break-even timelines

Importantly, the calculator is designed with privacy in mind. Data entered into the tool is used only for the calculations on your device and is not stored or shared.

This resource is now available as a KCA member benefit and reflects our continued commitment to empowering chiropractors with practical resources that support successful, sustainable practices.

KSBHA Continuing Education & HCSF Compliance Audits Underway

The Kansas Chiropractic Association has recently become aware that the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts (KSBHA) has begun conducting random audits related to continuing education and Kansas Health Care Stabilization Fund (HCSF) compliance for chiropractic license renewals.

Doctors selected for audit are being asked to provide:

  • Proof of completed continuing education hours for their renewal period
  • Documentation of Kansas Health Care Stabilization Fund compliance and surcharge payment

According to notices being sent by the Board, failure to respond or provide documentation by the stated deadline may result in disciplinary action, including fines, public censure, or suspension of licensure.

KCA strongly encourages all Kansas chiropractors to:

  • Maintain organized records of continuing education certificates and documentation
  • Retain copies of HCSF compliance certifications and related materials
  • Respond promptly to any audit request from the KSBHA
  • Submit all requested documentation before the deadline listed in the notice

If you are selected for audit, the Board’s notice indicates that proof of HCSF compliance must be obtained directly from the Kansas Health Care Stabilization Fund and submitted to the Board. Non-resident licensees may also need to submit additional documentation to the HCSF.

KCA also recommends maintaining digital copies of all continuing education certificates and compliance documents in a secure, organized location to simplify future renewal and audit processes.

Artificial Intelligence and Compliance in Chiropractic: What Helps and What Hurts

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing healthcare documentation, billing, compliance, and workflow systems — and chiropractic offices are no exception. In this article,  Evan M. Gwilliam explores the growing role of AI in chiropractic practice management, including both the opportunities and the compliance risks that come with AI-powered documentation, coding, ambient listening tools, and payer analytics. From HIPAA concerns and hallucinated documentation to Medicare Advantage algorithms and prior authorization trends, this article provides practical guidance for chiropractors looking to use AI responsibly while protecting documentation integrity and regulatory compliance. Building a Stronger KCA Together

At the Kansas Chiropractic Association, membership is more than a dues payment. It is an investment in advocacy, education, professional protection, and the long-term future of chiropractic in Kansas.

Over the past year, we have worked to sharpen our focus on member value, improve our communication tools, and build resources that clearly demonstrate the return on investment of KCA membership. As part of that effort, we recently launched several new membership initiatives designed to help current members better understand the value of the Association — and to help non-members see what they are missing.

New Membership Resources

We recently launched a redesigned KCA membership landing page that highlights the many ways the Association works for Kansas chiropractors every day.

Join KCA:

The page outlines member benefits, including legislative advocacy and regulatory representation, continuing education discounts, district engagement opportunities, compliance resources, and professional networking.

We also created a new Membership ROI Calculator to help chiropractors better understand the tangible financial value of membership.

Many members are surprised to see how quickly the value adds up through advocacy, CE savings, district meetings, compliance support, conventions, and member discounts. While some benefits are difficult to quantify — such as protecting chiropractic scope or maintaining representation at the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts — those efforts may ultimately be the most important work the Association performs.

Strategic Growth Goals

As part of the KCA Strategic Plan, the Association has established a goal of adding 30 new members in 2026. That goal aligns with our broader mission of strengthening chiropractic advocacy, engagement, and organizational sustainability throughout Kansas.

KCA Strategic Plan:
2026 KCA Strategic Plan Handout

In addition to the Association’s official goal, I have set a personal goal of helping KCA reach 40 new members this year.

To support those efforts, we also developed a new membership leave-behind handout that can be shared during conversations with prospective members.

Membership growth matters because a stronger membership creates stronger advocacy. Every additional member increases the Association’s ability to represent the profession before legislators, regulators, insurance companies, and other stakeholders.

The Dome Tour Challenge

And now for the accountability portion of this campaign.

If KCA reaches my personal goal of 40 new members in 2026, I will livestream myself completing the famous Kansas Statehouse Dome Tour in Topeka.

The tour includes climbing 296 steps inside the Kansas State Capitol dome, with no elevator, before reaching the outdoor observation area at the top of the Capitol.

So, if you have colleagues who are not currently KCA members, now is the perfect time to encourage them to join. Help us grow the profession, strengthen our advocacy efforts, and perhaps enjoy the sight of your Executive Director questioning his life choices somewhere around step 240.

Together, we can continue building a stronger future for chiropractic in Kansas.
