Kansas Sales Tax Update

Several KCA members have reported phone calls from the Kansas Department of Revenue after submitting their most recent sales tax filings. The calls were inquiring about the 0% state tax reported on supplements.

If you receive one of these calls, the relevant information about sales tax on supplements is available on the Federal and State Regulations page at Kansaschiro.com. (KCA Member Benefit – Must be logged in to view.)

National Blue Cross Provider Settlement

In October 2024, a monumental settlement in a longstanding antitrust class action lawsuit filed on behalf of healthcare providers nationwide was announced. The settlement, with all the Blue Cross and Blue Shield entities in the country, as well as the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, is the largest antitrust settlement in the history of the United States healthcare industry, and is made up of two elements:

  1. A $2.8 billion settlement fund to reimburse providers; and
  2. A commitment from the Blues to make operational and structural improvements to benefit providers and prevent future anti-competitive conduct.

The underlying lawsuit alleged that the Blues violated the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 by illegally dividing the United States into “service areas” and agreeing not to compete in those areas, which limited competition and lowered reimbursement. The Blues deny any wrongdoing but still agreed to the $2.8 billion settlement.

A webinar on how to submit a claim for your share of the settlement proceeds will be held on May 2, 2025. Sign up here.

Kansas Regulations Deep Dive

The Kansas Board of Healing Arts has several regulations that apply to doctors of chiropractic and their offices. K.A.R. 100-25-2 has been in effect since July 1, 2006, and sets out general Office Sanitation and Safety requirements and standards.

These regulations require written sanitation and safety procedures. Do you have these procedures in your compliance manual?

Statusfi, a KCA Member benefit, will include these state-level regulations to help you maintain compliance across state and federal regulations.

Statusfi will launch for KCA Members in early Spring 2025!

Student Mentoring Opportunity!

The Kansas State University College of Health and Human Sciences is currently looking for mentors in the chiropractic profession to help guide our students who are interested in the chiropractic career path. Typically, mentors meet with students once a month for an hour to answer questions about their career path, chiropractic school, balancing school and social life, and any other topics that might be of interest to the student. These meetings can happen in person, over the phone, or via Zoom. Mentors do not have to be alumni of K-State to be part of the program; they just have to be willing to help students!

If you have questions about the mentoring program, contact program coordinator Dana Parker at dlaparker@ksu.edu. If you want to apply to be a mentor, please visit wildcatlink.ksu.edu to apply!
