2025 National Chiropractic Health Month
2025 NCHM Proclamation

October is National Chiropractic Health Month in Kansas!

We are proud to announce that Governor Laura Kelly has officially proclaimed October 2025 as National Chiropractic Health Month in the state of Kansas.

This year’s theme, “Get Started with Chiropractic,” highlights the critical role chiropractors play in helping patients manage pain, improve musculoskeletal health, and reduce reliance on prescription medications through safe, effective, non-drug approaches.

The Kansas Chiropractic Association thanks Governor Kelly for recognizing the value of chiropractic care in promoting health and wellness for Kansans of all ages.

Tuesday Topic: How to Handle Online Reviews — and Stay HIPAA Compliant

Online reviews can be a great way for patients to share their experiences with your chiropractic office, but responding to them incorrectly can lead to HIPAA violations. In this week’s Tuesday Topic, KCA Executive Director Dr. Travis Oller offers a quick compliance reminder about how to manage online reviews the right way.
Many doctors don’t realize that replying to a patient’s online review—especially with a personalized “thank you”—can inadvertently confirm that the person is a patient. That’s considered a disclosure of protected health information (PHI) under HIPAA. Even a simple “thank you for being a great patient” is not allowed unless you have the patient’s explicit written consent.

So, what can you do instead? Keep your responses general. A safe and compliant reply might simply be:

     “We appreciate the feedback.”

Dr. Oller also demonstrates how KCA’s Statusfi Dashboard can help offices set up compliant policies and staff training for handling online reviews. Within Statusfi, members can access online review compliance guidance under Advertising Compliance, including sample policies, and response language when using our new feature called Ask Paxson, which uses AI to generate customized, HIPAA-compliant policies for your office.

Whether you receive positive or negative feedback online, remember:

  1. Don’t confirm patient status.
  2. Avoid discussing specifics.
  3. Use pre-approved, general language.
  4. Redirect conversations to private channels when needed.

This short video is a must-watch for every office, whether you manage your own Google, Facebook, or Yelp reviews, or if you have a company/service that does it for you. It’s another example of how KCA and Statusfi make compliance simple and accessible for Kansas chiropractors.

The Squeaky Wheel Gets the Grease – Insurance Department Complaints Really Do Work

We recently heard from a KCA member who was having a tough time getting paid correctly by several auto insurance companies. Each of them was bundling re-exam codes with chiropractic manipulation codes, refusing to reimburse separately for the re-exam.

After getting nowhere with the insurers, the doctor decided to file complaints with the Kansas Insurance Department. The result? Within days, the companies reversed their denials and paid for the re-exams correctly.

This is a good reminder that complaints to the Insurance Department make a difference. When insurers don’t follow proper payment rules, the Kansas Insurance Department can step in and hold them accountable.

If you run into a similar issue—whether it’s bundling, improper denials, or other payment problems—don’t just let it go. File a complaint. It’s quick, it’s free, and it works.

You can submit a complaint directly through the Kansas Insurance Department website here: https://insurance.kansas.gov/complaint/

The bottom line: when chiropractors speak up, things change.
