December 5, 2024 – Kansas Doctors of Chiropractic, who are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, recently received an email titled “Notification of Upcoming Risk Adjustment Requests.”

This email is poorly worded and makes it seem like these audits are targeting Doctors of Chiropractic.

Insurance companies that sell plans on the Affordable Care Act marketplace are required to perform a Risk Adjustment Audit annually. This is a measurement of how “sick” their average patient is and is a way for CMS to determine incentives they pay to insurance companies and to determine appropriate rate increases for the following year.

The patients and providers used in these audits are random and are not picked for any specific reason other than a computer picked them from all in-network providers.

If you receive one of these audit requests, please comply with it promtly.
