KCA recognizes doctors in the field of chiropractic who have contributed to the profession in outstanding ways.
KCA Doctor of the Year Award
This award is presented to a Kansas Doctor of Chiropractic who has made outstanding contributions to the field of Chiropractic. Nominations are made by the KCA Board of Directors and Officers, KCA district officers, committee chairs, and chiropractic members of the Kansas Board of Healing Arts. KCA members select the recipient via ballot vote. The recipient is recognized at the KCA Fall Convention with an engraved plaque, and with a permanent plaque hung at the KCA Office in Topeka.
2025 KCA Doctor of the Year
Karl May, DC, Clearwater
Dr. Karl May is a 1999 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic. Dr. May has been a KCA member since 2001, when he started practice in Kansas. He has served KCA at both the district (Sedgwick District) and the state level as KCA Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-President, President, and Immediate Past President. He has also served as either a member or Chair of every KCA Committee. Dr. May enjoys working on both State and National legislative issues. Dr. May has worked with the sports teams of several local universities and professional teams, and he enjoys mentoring new doctors in practice. He has been awarded as a Platinum Provider in shockwave therapy for the development and training of other providers in all disciplines.
Dr. May has been awarded by a military General for his service and dedication to veterans and wounded warriors through the Patriot Project. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting and weekends at the lake with his wife, Lindy, and two boys, Parker and Brody. Dr. May has served on several local boards, including President of the Chamber of Commerce and Master of the Masonic Unity Lodge 273. He and his family are heavily involved in the Special Olympics and The National Down Syndrome Congress. During various holiday seasons, he donates his time to different organizations dressed as holiday characters such as the Easter Bunny, the Thanksgiving turkey, and Santa Claus. He and his family live in Clearwater. He has offices in both Clearwater and Harper.

Dr. Darrell Fore Young Doctor of the Year Award
This award is presented to a Kansas Doctor of Chiropractic who has made outstanding contributions to the field of Chiropractic within the first few years of practice. Nominations are gathered by the KCA President from the KCA Board of Directors and Officers, and any other KCA members as needed. The President considers all nominations, then selects a recipient for approval by the board of directors. The recipient is recognized at the KCA Fall Convention with an engraved plaque, and with a permanent plaque hung at the KCA Office in Topeka.
2024 Young Doctor of the Year
Dr. Sara Flickinger, DC, Dodge City
Dr. Flickinger, a 2012 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic, co-owns Dodge City Chiropractic. She has served the KCA as Southwest District Alternate Director and currently contributes as the Southwest District Director and as a member of the KCA Convention Committee. We especially commend her dedication to traveling long distances to attend meetings and events on behalf of the Association.
Beyond her professional contributions, Dr. Flickinger is a devout Christian and has volunteered in her church. At home, she is described by her husband as a “bad-ass Super Mom.” She is currently homeschooling two children while also caring for a one-year-old. In her personal time, she enjoys reading, following K-State football, and researching patient conditions, health topics, and current events.
Dr. Flickinger lives in Dodge City, Kansas, with her husband, Dr. Shaunnon Flickinger, and their three children: Elodie (7), Ames (5), and Kaiser (1).
