The Kansas Chiropractic Association (KCA) gathered this past Saturday at the Scotch and Sirloin in Wichita to celebrate the achievements and dedication of outstanding doctors of chiropractic during our annual awards banquet.

Doctor of the Year
KCA proudly presented the 2025 Doctor of the Year Award to Dr. Karl May of Clearwater and Harper. A 1999 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic, Dr. May has been a KCA member since 2001 and has served in nearly every leadership role, including Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President, President, and Immediate Past President. He has also chaired or participated in every KCA committee.
Dr. May’s impact extends beyond the Association. He has been active on both state and national legislative issues, worked with collegiate and professional sports teams, and mentored countless new doctors. His service to veterans and wounded warriors through the Patriot Project earned him recognition from a U.S. military general. In his community, Dr. May has served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Master of the Masonic Unity Lodge 273, and is deeply engaged with the Special Olympics and the National Down Syndrome Congress. Known for his generosity of spirit, he even volunteers during the holidays as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and other festive characters.
Dr. May lives in Clearwater with his wife, Lindy, and their two sons, Parker and Brody.

Doctor of the Year Finalist
KCA also recognized Dr. Rebekah Cates of Wichita as a finalist for Doctor of the Year. A 1998 graduate of Parker Chiropractic College, Dr. Cates has dedicated over 25 years to serving the Wichita community. She currently serves as Sedgwick District Alternate Director and as a member of the KCA Medicare/Insurance Committee.
Dr. Cates is passionate about mentoring future chiropractors, frequently engaging high school and college students through educational talks and clinic shadowing opportunities. Her dedication to both her profession and her family is evident—her son will graduate as a Doctor of Chiropractic this December, and her daughters are pursuing careers in the healthcare field. Dr. Cates and her husband, Jason, are proud parents and grandparents, building what she fondly calls a “chiropractic tribe in the making.”

Young Doctor of the Year
The Dr. Darrell Fore Young Doctor of the Year Award was presented to Dr. Sara Flickinger of Dodge City. A 2012 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic, Dr. Flickinger co-owns Dodge City Chiropractic and serves as the KCA Southwest District Director and on the KCA Convention Committee. Known for her willingness to travel long distances to represent the Association, Dr. Flickinger exemplifies dedication and service. Outside of her professional role, Dr. Flickinger is devoted to her family and community. She homeschools her two older children while caring for her youngest, and she actively volunteers in her church. Her husband, Dr. Shaunnon Flickinger, proudly calls her a “bad-ass Super Mom.” The couple lives in Dodge City with their three children, Elodie (7), Ames (5), and Kaiser (1).

The Kansas Chiropractic Association congratulates Dr. May, Dr. Cates, and Dr. Flickinger on their leadership, service, and commitment to the chiropractic profession.
